“Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel” said Saint Paul. Far from seeking self-glorification, we Xaverian Missionaries share in the same awareness of the great Apostle of the Gentiles regarding his duty to form Christ in those who do not know him yet. Our charism, deeply rooted in the proclamation of the Gospel of Christ impels us and keeps our hearts restless till all the hearts are converted to Christ. It is with this motive that we have undertaken since last year, our apostolate in Zone IV.
Our Community of Theology has been granted by the parish priest Fr. Sandro, sx the task to work for the Christian evangelization of the place. To carry out this important mission, we have been organizing there different sets of activities that involve children, youth and adults. Catechesis every Saturday gathers children in preparation for baptism and confirmation. Bible sharing meetings endow adults and young adults with a moment to reflect on the World of God and to find in it the spiritual support of their daily life. Youth and choir ministries take place once a week and offer to young people not only a human and spiritual formation but also a sense of belonging and thus, the courage to participate in the life of their chapel.
Though our ministry in Zone IV is just at its beginning, we rejoice as we hear the word of Christ: “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
This morning, during the Eucharist, a piece of land where Saint Guido Maria Conforti Chapel is to be built, has been blessed by Fr Aldo, sx in the presence of the Christian community. The construction of this chapel is of greater importance regarding the need to have a common place for worship where all the fragmentary communities of Zone IV may gather with one accord. The joy of the people of God attending the blessing of the land was indicative of their willingness to open wide the doors to Christ.
Come Lord Jesus!
