“Woe to me if I don’t preach the Gospel” (1 Cor 9:16)
October 17 and 18, 2012 have been days set apart by our Theologate community to visiting various classrooms of St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. The goal of this mission awareness activity was in connection with the celebration of the World Mission Sunday which this year is distinctly special for Filipinos because of the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod, the second Filipino Saint. In fact it will happen the very day of World Mission Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Rome. St. Pedro Calungsod, a young man who knew his faith and became a missionary martyr, is the shining example for all of us and above all for the youth who want to share Christ’s friendship to the world.
Our visitation to the High School students of St. Francis Xavier school, has been a good opportunity to get more in touch with the youth and thus, rekindle the mission awareness in them hoping that through the work of the Holy Spirit we can have more young people consecrating their lives to God at the service of mission. The students showed much interest in all the talks which were about Mission in general and about the enthusiastic missionary witness of Pedro Calungsod. Several of us gave a short testimony sharing about our vocation story and the motivations that keep us in this missionary journey.
May Pedro Calungsod pray for us and share with us his missionary spirit full of zeal! May his intercession strengthen the Filipino Church and the whole Church to carry on the mission entrusted to her and which is still relevant: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’’(Mt 28,19).
