Every year, The Philippines celebrate the importance of the Bible in Nation-building. During this period, especially the National Bible Sunday the homilies and BEC sharing focus on the Bible’s role in changing the people’s lives.

This annual event started in 1982 when President Ferdinand E. Marcos declared a nationwide Bible celebration on first Sunday of Advent and the last week of November. However, in 1986 the President Corazon C. Aquino transferred the NBW celebration in the first month of the year. Until now that proclamation has been reinforced by Presidential Proclamations which urge the national attention to be focused in the importance of reading and studying the Bible in molding the spiritual, moral, and social fiber of the citizenry. (Proclamation no124 by President Duterte Jan 5,2017).

In our Ina ng Laging Saklolo Chapel, Sitio Militar, Q.C. the weekly ministries focused on the bible awareness. Then people join Basic Ecclesial Communities gathering in order to share the transforming power of the Bible in their daily lives. As the national attention focuses on the importance of Reading and studying the Bible, I experienced how each one of us shared his or her personal daily encounter with God through the ordinary experience of joy,  hope,  problems and other challenges.

Our celebration culminated with a joyful and prayerful procession around Sitio Militar and Bible selling in order to express the deep desire of the Church that states that easy access to Sacred Scripture should be provided for all the Christian faithful (DV22).
